In a candid and inspiring conversation, Samantha Fett, Iowa’s newest House Representative and Vice Chair of the Education Committee, shared her journey from local school board member to state legislator. Family, Faith, and Focus
The foundation of Samantha’s approach lies in her close-knit family, which she fondly calls the "core four." Spending quality time with her husband and two daughters has shaped her perspective on leadership and service. This family-first approach underpins her dedication to improving Iowa’s education system and standing firm on issues that matter to parents and children.
During the interview, Samantha shared how Christmas and New Year’s celebrations with her family fueled her resolve to be intentional in both her personal and professional life.

From School Board Battles to State Leadership
Samantha’s journey began in 2018 when she joined her local school board to challenge policies she felt were not in students’ best interests. Her leadership was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic when she spearheaded the fight to remove mask mandates in schools, standing firm against political and public pressure. This experience deepened her commitment to advocating for parental choice and commonsense policies.
As a member of Moms for Liberty, Samantha found an army of like-minded individuals ready to stand alongside her in fighting for age-appropriate content in schools and educational freedom. This grassroots work prepared her for the challenges of running for and winning her seat in the Iowa House of Representatives.
The Power of Parental Advocacy
Education reform remains Samantha’s top priority. She’s passionate about ensuring schools focus on core subjects while providing environments where all children can thrive. Her role as Vice Chair of the Education Committee puts her in a unique position to address pressing issues such as the impact of technology on learning, school safety, and expanding educational choice through programs like ESAs (Educational Savings Accounts).
Books aren't being banned, Period.
Samantha also addressed the controversial narrative surrounding “banned books,” explaining how the fight is not about censorship but about ensuring age-appropriate material is available in schools. She shared the importance of protecting children from inappropriate content, stating,
"We don’t allow children unrestricted access to R-rated movies or video games—why should books be any different?”
Tackling Challenges Head-On
Samantha’s campaign wasn’t without its difficulties. She faced personal attacks and long hours of door-knocking, reaching over 12,000 homes. However, she turned these challenges into opportunities to connect with constituents and build lasting relationships. Her perseverance and commitment to listening to voters' concerns were instrumental in her success.
Her biggest motivation? Not wanting to let down her supporters.
"I worked hard because so many people believed in me. I couldn’t let them down.”

She also touched on broader societal concerns, including safeguarding young women’s rights in school bathrooms and locker rooms. Samantha’s unapologetic stance on biological realities and protecting minors from harmful ideologies reflects her dedication to serving with integrity.
